The role combines fine mechanical handling under a microscope with chemical cleaning, electroplating, and metallizing processes in a contamination‑controlled environment. The technician supports production and engineering to ensure strong adhesion, proper conductivity, and high reliability of metallized ceramics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metallization processes including chemical cleaning, activation, plating, and deposition on ceramic components.
  • Handle delicate parts using micro‑tools and microscope work to prevent contamination and defects.
  • Execute wet‑chemistry tasks such as degreasing, acid/alkaline cleaning, rinsing, and ultrasonic cleaning.
  • Electroplate components by controlling voltage, current, and time to meet thickness specifications.
  • Inspect coating quality using XRF and microscope‑level visual inspection.
  • Maintain and replenish chemical baths based on titrations, pH checks, and lab analysis.
  • Perform precise fixture and alignment of ceramic parts with micro-level accuracy.
  • Apply brazing preforms, adhesives, or bonding materials as required.
  • Follow cleanroom, FOD, chemical‑handling, and ESD procedures.
  • Document all work, including bath data, thickness results, process steps, and inspection notes.
  • Coordinate with engineering and production on metallization requirements and process improvements.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on wet lab and plating.
  • Handle hazardous materials safely using appropriate PPE, support chemical waste compliance.
  • Prepare metallized components for testing and assist with fixture handling.

  • Ability to perform basic math for surface area, current density, and solution adjustments.
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs. and wear PPE for extended periods.
  • Experience assembling miniature components under a microscope.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and detailed work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency when working with delicate structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with chemical analysis methods such as titrations, XRF, AA spectroscopy, or Hull Cell testing.
  • Knowledge of metallization, plating, brazing, or bonding processes.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality‑management standards.
